September was a busy month! School started on Tuesday, September 3rd, with new students and teachers joining us. In Mrs. Darlene’s kindergarten class, the kids are loving learning and are very excited about school. Lukas Pineda and Isaac Vaughan celebrated their birthdays! Riley Hetherwick’s birthday in Mrs. Christi’s 1st grade class was also celebrated with cake, fun glasses and hats. They’ve also been learning about classroom rules, grammar, seasons, and history. Also, in Mrs. Jessica’s 2nd grade class, her students are doing great and are very excited about reading. As for Mrs. Katie’s 3rd and 4th grade class, they celebrated several birthdays: Violet Russo, Layla Hetherwick, Eve Mouton, and Hosea Alexander… and Mrs. Katie’s own birthday! Their celebrations were full of cake, cupcakes, cookie cakes, and a special lunch for Mrs. Katie from Chick-fil-A. In the parsonage, there were several birthdays for the middle schoolers, junior highers, and senior high students – but we might have missed a few! In 5th and 6th grade, they celebrated Sawyer Guillory’s birthday, and in 7th and 8th grade, Joseph and Autumn had birthdays in September. The Freshmen and Sophomores celebrated Luke’s birthday with special visits from the Juniors and Seniors and a cake made by Landon!

We also got some unexpected time off because of a hurricane that luckily missed us! That’s all for a glance back at September!

This month within the classrooms, there are lots of teachers teaching in fun ways! In Mrs. Darlene’s Kindergarten class, they will have a Fun Friday each week, celebrating their good behavior. In October, their Fun Friday prize will be nap time outside! In 1st grade, Mrs. Christi’s students will be learning about halves of shapes by cutting up apples and oranges. They will be using the oranges to make a fall garland while also learning about patterns. The extra apples will be used in a race, where the students will be using straws to blow their “boats” across the finish line! Mrs. Jessica’s 2nd graders will be doing something called Sweet Math with Facts. As the students progress in Math they are rewarded with donut parties! For Mrs. Katie’s 3rd and 4th grade class, they will be growing herbs and possibly lettuce. 5th and 6th graders, taught by Mrs Anna, will be doing multiple science experiments throughout the month. And our Junior High and High Schoolers will be reading through multiple books in their Humanities classes, as well as gearing up for a hiking field trip in November!

October is ramping up to be an exciting month for sports! Ms. Shirah is the head of our middle through high school Cross-Country team (grades 7th-12th). Practice is every Tuesday and Thursday after school until Track and Field starts in February. There will be competitions for Cross-Country throughout October. They will be every Saturday – October 5, 12th, 19th, and 26th, and the championship meet will be on November 2!

This month’s highlighted teacher is Mr. Jordan, who’s birthday is March 25th, 1998, which makes him 26 years old. He has been married to his wife, Mrs. Camille, for four years and is the father of two children. Mr. Jordan has been teaching at Christ Church Academy for three years, and is the current homeroom teacher for the 7th and 8th graders. This year he also teaches Humanities, Logic, Math, and Economics

I asked the 7th and 8th graders a question:

“If you had to choose your favorite thing about Mr. Jordan, class or personality wise, what would it be?”

There were lots of answers, but something one person said summed it up, “He wants us to learn, not just pass.”  This is something, I think, that is very important when it comes to teaching because it shows how much a teacher really cares about the future of their students.

I also asked Mr. Jordan some questions and here’s the gist of things:

  1. What is your favorite part about teaching?

“I love spending time with the people, because the people are so unique. God made every student with different gifts and watching them grow is the best part.”

  1. What is your favorite subject to teach?

“Math or Literature.”

  1. What is your favorite subject to learn?

“Algebra for sure.”

  1. If you had to choose a favorite book, what would it be?

“ ‘Till We Have Faces.’ by C.S. Lewis, because of the way that Lewis envelops you in the story, emotionally, through the settings, and through the thrill.”

  1. How do you keep your students immersed in a lesson?

“With everything you learn, you learn its purpose, and behind the scenes of everything is God. There are secrets in everything and understanding that is, helping understand God.”

Mr. Jordan is a wonderful teacher and a great asset to CCA. Teachers and students alike love him. I hope we never lose such a wonderful teacher and role model for our students.

Monday – Cartoon Character Day
Dress up as your favorite cartoon character!

Tuesday – Twin Tuesday
Just like last year, pick a partner (or a group) and coordinate matching outfits – or dress like a teacher! That seemed to be a hit last year!

Wednesday – Anything but a Backpack Day
Exactly as it sounds, leave the backpacks at home and bring your books and lunch in anything else.

Thursday – Theme Thursday
It’s the competition of the classes! Each class will choose their own theme – with the help of their teacher – and come dressed to win! It’s a competition so get to brainstorming ideas! The class with the most votes will win a donut party on Spirit Day! We will have multiple judges ready to cast their vote!

Friday – Spirit Day
Students get to show their school spirit by dressing in our colors, sports apparel, the ultimate Kings fan, or even as our mascot! It’s the closest day we have to a Pep Rally so let’s have some fun!

This month’s newsletter was edited with the help of Amelia Nealy. She is a Sophomore and the daughter of Pastor Brandon and Mrs. Emily Nealy. She is very devoted to her grades and education, and is a wonderful student. She loves to read – specifically Charlotte Bronte and Jane Austen – and her favorite subject is English. Amelia loves writing and is also fond of running. You can find her running in both Cross Country and Track – so go cheer her on! Written by: Caroline Robertson

Her classmates say…
“Amelia is an excellent writer, who can always enjoy a good book.” – Kloey Walling
“She is a wonderful writer who loves creative writing.” – Noah Kidder
“Amelia is always diligent with her work, regardless of how frustrating it is.” – Landon Rapinchuk
“She’s an intelligent worker and is up to the task for anything no matter the situation.” – Luke Smith
