Welcome to the year 2025 and welcome back to CCA, staff and students! To start the new year off, we returned to school in true winter weather on January 7th!

We will be off for January 20th in celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. day!

And there will also be NO SCHOOL on Friday, January 24, 2025 as Christ Church of Acadiana prepares to host Tactics Con that weekend!

December was filled with a ton of holly jolly events, so let’s rewind and look back at what happened in our classrooms before Christmas. Mrs. Darlene’s Kindergarten class spent most of the month preparing for their puppet show which they presented at Christmas Chapel. Well done to our youngest students!

In Mrs. Christi’s First Grade class, they are learning about the walls of Jericho in Bible, and to help with that they used pretzels and marshmallows to build their own tower. Later, they got to knock it down and eat it. They also spent many afternoons of the month preparing for Christmas Chapel, organizing their fun performance of the Little Drummer Boy. They performed with buckets, drumsticks, and a triangle bell! Great job!

The Second Graders were learning about venn diagrams and adding by 10’s in Mrs. Jessica’s Math class. Then in science they learned about birds – specifically their feathers. When doing this, they would go outside and observe as well as draw the birds that they saw. In Grammar, they learned about prepositions and verbs. Last but not least, in Bible, they were taught the story of Sodom and Gomorrah and lessons on God’s promises.

The highlight of the month for Mrs. Katie’s Third and Fourth Grade students was their gift exchange and Christmas party before the break! They also had their very first harvest of kale, which was used for the following Sunday potluck at Christ Church Northside. It’s always great to enjoy the fruit of the labors of our students and teachers when they share it with us!

In Mrs. Anna’s Fifth and Sixth grade class, they went through the month of December using the 12 Days of Christmas involving the scriptures, birth of Christ, and Math. While doing that, they also read the Swiss Family Robinson by Johann David Wyss. Then in Science, they began studying the scientific method.

This will definitely come in handy for them as they continue through to Seventh and Eighth Grades – where Ms. Belle’s Physical Science students have continued learning and incorporating the Scientific Method, as well as preparing for their third module test. In one of Mr. Jordan’s classes with them, they are reading Herodotus, which is about, “the rise and fall of empires…”

In Ninth, Tenth, Eleventh, and Twelfth Grades, they blended lessons with celebrations – beginning with celebrating Ms. Paula’s birthday together at the start of the month, then the girls went to Ms. Belle’s house for her annual 7-12th Grade Girls Christmas Party where all the girls dressed in their favorite Christmas pajamas, and were able to enjoy tons of pizza, candy, hot chocolate, and other fun snacks while playing games, singing karaoke (everyone was forced to sing at least once), and a game of White Elephant. That’s not the end of the celebrations because they joined with the other Parsonage classes to celebrate Pastor Scott’s birthday (Parsonage Prankster style), then they celebrated the end of the year and Christmas break with a final day of fun – organized by Mrs. Sarah Leonards.

Can’t wait to write next month’s edition, so see you after Christmas break! We hope you had a Merry Christmas and a Great New Year!

The month of December has been quite rainy, so most days, for recess, K-6th Grade have been relocated to our gym! They still make the best of it by throwing ball, playing tag, or going wherever their imagination takes them. While 7th-10th Graders typically stick near the parsonage, sometimes just hanging out and talking, or playing a game with cards, like Mafia.

Christmas Pajama Day Games

It was a fun day for all on CCA’s Pajama Day! There were lots of games for the upperclassmen, and a movie for elementary students! Though Reindeer Games for K-6th were cancelled, they still enjoyed comfy pajamas, partying with their classmates, some even did Secret Santa Games, and finally all were treated to Cookies, Milk, and a Movie! 7-12th Graders enjoyed a game filled (and food filled) morning in the gym with Mrs. Sarah, Ms. Belle, and Miss Shirah before bidding the school farewell for 2024 and beginning the Christmas Break!

Mrs. Anna Solomon is CCA’s Fifth and Sixth Grade teacher. She is a wonderful and most beloved teacher, and also the mother of her two children, Ellington and Nathan. We all love Mrs. Anna here at CCA. When I asked the other teachers about Mrs. Anna, four of them mentioned how creative she is and this creativity helps her students to have fun learning and is truly a skill all of her students are thankful for. Some of her hobbies include baking, homemaking, and reading. Mrs. Anna also loves traveling, and has travelled to five different countries.

I asked Mrs. Anna a few questions about her teaching and these were her answers:

Q: What’s your favorite class to teach?

“Math and science.”

Q: Why did you choose teaching?

She said that she had always wanted to be a teacher. She recalls that when she was younger, she would ask her teachers for their old worksheets and then go use them to “teach” her stuffed animals.

Q: What is your favorite part about teaching?

“Getting to know the kids and building great relationships with them.”
She also enjoys working so hard it “makes my brain hurt”.

Q: How long have you been teaching?

Twelve years in all but at CCA four years.

The teachers say…

“She’s everything, I want to be just like her.” – Mrs. Darlene who continued saying that she loves how Mrs. Anna is so creative and brings it all to her classroom. She also mentioned how sweet she is to everyone.

Mrs. Christi said that she is a great teacher, and she loves her hospitality and how she takes the time to disciple her students. Mrs. Christi also said that Mrs. Anna is creative, and her students love her.

Mrs. Jessica said that she is dependable and full of ideas. She is also always present and willing to help me be a better teacher. “I am very grateful for her.”

Mrs. Katie told me about how she is very generous and very easy to talk to. She can have conversations at any moment about anything. She also loves her kids and holds high standards for them.

Ms. Belle said she’s very helpful to the other teachers, always ready to offer a advice for their classroom, as well as always eager to know more and learn more. “She’s a great teacher, and her students all love her! Hearing their excitement about each class with her is proof of how wonderful a teacher she is!”

Miss Shirah’s art students are hard at work, and this month she’s chosen to showcase two of her students!
“Here are the best!” – Miss Shirah

For this Christmas season, a cease-fire has been called within the Parsonage. Things have instead taken a turn towards our beloved Pastor Scott. On Monday, December 9th, the Parsonage armies joined forces to prank Pastor Scott by attaching mint chocolate candies to his birthday gifts. For those who are unaware, Pastor Scott has a strong distaste for mint chocolate – but we have fondness for showing our appreciation through gentle pranks. While he was teaching, CCA’s 9th and 10th grade students took it upon themselves (well, ourselves) to place a handful of Andes Mints around his office in places for him to find throughout his birthday. One student placed an entire box of peppermint bark on his desk. We love you, Pastor Scott! Thanks for putting up with our shenanigans!

Though the Parsonage is currently under a truce, it is only a temporary constraint, so read into next month’s edition to find out more on this exhilarating conflict.

Our Student Editor is Kloey Walling. Kloey is the daughter of Steven and Jennifer Walling and a student in Ms. Belle’s 9th Grade class. This is her first year at CCA and she has shown diligence in her work.
